This annual bibliography identifies books, United Nations documents and journal articles on rural development received by the ESCAP Library and selected United Nations libraries during 1989. Its 224 annotated citations cover agriculture, science and technology, health and social services, human resources, institutions, rural industrialization, infrastructure, natural resources, environmental management, development policy and planning. Individual entries normally provide bibliographic details, indexing terms, call numbers and short descriptions of the publication’s purpose and findings. The literature gives particular attention to rural poverty, agricultural development, community participation, women in development, employment, local institutions, appropriate technology, energy, water supply and integrated rural development. Author, title and geographic indexes provide alternative points of access to the cited materials.
