Regional stakeholders' consultation and planning workshop on the commercial sexual exploitation of children and child sexual abuse in the Pacific: a Pacific Regional Report, 19-21 November 2007, Suva, Fiji

The 2007 Regional Stakeholders’ Consultation and Planning Workshop in Suva, Fiji, represented a critical milestone in the collaborative effort by ESCAP, ECPAT, and UNICEF to address the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) and child sexual abuse (CSA) across seven Pacific Island nations. Building on foundational research and situation analyses conducted between 2004 and 2006, the forum brought together government officials, NGOs, and regional organizations to translate empirical findings into unified policy and action. The workshop focused on identifying socio-economic root causes—such as poverty and inadequate protection mechanisms—while empowering participants to develop National Plans of Action centered on prevention, legal protection, and victim reintegration. Ultimately, the gathering served to align Pacific sub-regional strategies with global commitments, ensuring that the unique vulnerabilities of children in the region are met with coordinated, multi-sectoral responses and sustained institutional support.
