Comprehensive demographic study of the Cook Islands examining historical population development, contemporary population structure and projected trends. The monograph analyzes population growth, fertility, mortality and migration patterns using census data, vital statistics and survey sources. Topics include population distribution, household composition, labour force participation, and the status of women, together with internal and external migration patterns—particularly migration to New Zealand. Population projections for the period 1981–2001 are presented to assess future demographic change and implications for economic and social development planning in the Cook Islands.
