The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is contributing substantively to the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Population Ageing 2026 through two major workstreams: a pre-conference NTA-I Global Meeting and the Conference’s thematic track on Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Population Ageing.

On 26 October 2026, the day before the main Conference opens, ESCAP is co-organizing the NTA-I Global Meeting together with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). This inter-regional meeting brings together researchers, national statisticians and policymakers from Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, and beyond to share evidence on how economic resources flow between generations – and how those flows are being reshaped by population ageing. The meeting will spotlight National Transfer Accounts (NTA) and National Inclusion Accounts (NIA) as practical tools for informing social protection, fiscal and investment policies.

During the main Conference from 27 to 28 October 2026, ESCAP is co-leading four sessions under the thematic track on Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Population Ageing (Track B). These sessions explore how digital technologies and AI can support extended working lives, service delivery, care systems and independent living – while ensuring inclusion, ethics and good governance. The track’s analytical framework centres on three cross-cutting lenses: life course, intergenerational and rights-based. The sessions bring together voices from government, academia, the private sector, civil society and international organizations across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
