To support the subregional roll-out of the new capacity-building programme in South Asia, APCICT and the South Asia Women Development Forum are organizing the South Asia Subregional Training for WIFI DX on 11-13 June 2024, in Kathmandu, Nepal.

ESCAP, the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Affairs, Maldives, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Asia-Pacific Regional Office will organize an event on the sidelines of the 79th session of the Commission which focuses on "Women, Gender Equality, and Climate Change in Asia and the Pacific".  

The Policy Dialogue and the Launch of the Toolkit for Policymakers on Strengthening Women’s Entrepreneurship in National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Policies and Action Plans will be held virtually on 23 November 2022 from 9.00 – 11.30 hours (GMT+7, Bangkok/Jakarta time).

ESCAP and UNECE will convene the annual meeting of the SPECA Working Group on Gender and SDGs on 9 November 2022 in the margins of the SPECA Economic Forum taking place from 16 to 17 November 2022 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. 

Asia and the Pacific is home to more than 700 million persons with disabilities who face significant barriers to full and effective participation in society.

ESCAP will commemorate the International Day of Older Persons on 30 September 2022, 12.00-13.45, Bangkok time.

This year’s theme is “The Resilience and Contributions of Older Women in Asia and the Pacific.”

ESCAP will organize a special event consisting of a presentation on the situation of the region’s older women and an expert panel discussion.

A supportive legal and regulatory environment can enable women’s engagement in entrepreneurship, empowering them to participate equally in the economy. Yet, all over the world discriminatory laws and regulations restrict women’s economic inclusion. In Asia and the Pacific, when it comes to economic inclusion, women have less than three-quarters of the legal rights of men.

As stated by the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, “women’s equal participation is the game-changer we need”.

Population ageing is a megatrend in Asia and the Pacific, and it is rapidly increasing. In 2020, sixty per cent of the world’s older persons resided in the region, or some 630 million persons 60 years or over. By 2050, it is projected that one quarter of the population of Asia and the Pacific will be older, some 1.3 billion people.
