South Asia Subregional Training - Women ICT Frontier Initiative (WIFI) DX: Empowering Women Entrepreneurs through Digital Transformation

Commemoration of International Day of Older Persons 2022

ESCAP will commemorate the International Day of Older Persons on 30 September 2022, 12.00-13.45, Bangkok time.

This year’s theme is “The Resilience and Contributions of Older Women in Asia and the Pacific.”

ESCAP will organize a special event consisting of a presentation on the situation of the region’s older women and an expert panel discussion.

Yet, all over the world discriminatory laws and regulations restrict women’s economic inclusion. In Asia and the Pacific, when it comes to economic inclusion, women have less than three-quarters of the legal rights of men.

Population ageing is a megatrend in Asia and the Pacific, and it is rapidly increasing. In 2020, sixty per cent of the world’s older persons resided in the region, or some 630 million persons 60 years or over. By 2050, it is projected that one quarter of the population of Asia and the Pacific will be older, some 1.3 billion people.
