Under the Korea-ESCAP Cooperation Fund (KECF), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Government of the Republic of Korea have been collaborating since 2021 to strengthen the integration of policy and data through the Every Policy is Connected (EPiC) approach. EPiC is a participatory methodology that links policy outcomes, issues for action, target groups and indicators to identify data gaps, strengthen evidence-based policymaking, and improve policy monitoring systems.
Building on the success of the first KECF project implemented during 2021-2023, a second phase entitled “Enhanced Capacity for Monitoring of Integrated and Inclusive Policies for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific” (2024-2027) is supporting countries in reviewing policy inclusiveness, developing indicator frameworks aligned with national priorities, and enhancing national capacities for the compilation, dissemination and use of indicators. The project aims to strengthen countries' ability to monitor sustainable development outcomes and improve the use of statistics in decision-making processes.
The workshop is also linked to broader global discussions on lessons learned from monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) Task Team on Lessons Learned from Monitoring the SDGs is reviewing experiences from national, subnational, thematic and regional levels during 2026-2027. The workshop will provide a platform for countries in Asia and the Pacific to share their experiences, challenges and good practices, while contributing regional perspectives to the global dialogue on SDG monitoring and future development frameworks.
Against this backdrop, the Regional Workshop on Indicators for Policy Monitoring for Sustainable Development Towards 2030 and Beyond aims to facilitate peer learning and knowledge exchange among national statistical offices, planning agencies and development partners. Participants will discuss persistent challenges in developing and implementing indicator frameworks, reflect on lessons learned from a decade of SDG monitoring, explore strategies to maximize the availability and use of SDG data in the remaining years to 2030, and identify priorities for strengthening policy monitoring systems for the development agenda beyond 2030.
