South-South Exchange for Gender Equality: Virtual Roundtable Identifying Priority Actions in Asia-Pacific

In Asia and the Pacific, gender inequalities persist in almost all sectors of society and there is a need to accelerate progress for women and girls in the region. In preparation for the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review in November 2024, this virtual roundtable served as a platform for collaborative south-south exchange and sharing of progress, challenges and promising practices to advance gender equality in the region, with a focus on strengthening the capacity of Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States to accelerate progress for women and girls.

In accordance with ECOSOC Resolution E/RES/2022/5, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) led the Beijing+30 Asia-Pacific Regional Review, in close collaboration with UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. This virtual roundtable, organized by ESCAP in collaboration with UN-Women, was designed to support ESCAP member States in their ongoing preparations ahead of the Ministerial Conference. In addition to supporting member States’ substantive preparations, including the identification of national-level policy actions, participants received a briefing on the structure and programme of the Ministerial Conference as well as other practical matters to complement their readiness.
