Organized by Plan International, the Governments of the United Kingdom, Norway and South Africa, Fos Feminista, Guttmacher Institute, ESCAP, and partners, the side event “Innovation for Equality: Advancing SRHR in the Digital Era”, held in the margins of the 59th session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD59), will convene representatives from governments, the United Nations, civil society, research institutions, youth, and the private sector to explore the role of digital innovation in advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
The event will take the form of a multi-stakeholder dialogue, including opening remarks, moderated discussion, and interactive engagement with participants. It will provide a platform to share practices, exchange learning, and explore how technology and partnerships can both mitigate risks and expand opportunities for advancing SRHR.
The discussion will examine both opportunities and risks associated with digital technologies, including issues related to safety, privacy, and participation in SRHR-related discussions. It will also highlight perspectives from different stakeholders, including youth, governments, civil society, research organizations, the private sector, and the United Nations, fostering an intersectional and intergenerational dialogue.
The event will focus on:
- Opportunities and risks related to digital technologies, particularly on safety, privacy, and inclusion in SRHR discussions
- Government experiences and approaches in advancing SRHR through digital technologies
- Perspectives and contributions from youth and other stakeholders across sectors
