The annual Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (PFSD) serves as a platform for policymakers and stakeholders to discuss pressing and emerging issues confronting the Pacific region. The Eighth PFSD will focus on SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being); SDG 5 (Gender Equality); SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth); SDG 14 (Life Below Water); and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
The 2024 PFSD will be contextualized with the 2050 Strategy and its Implementation Plan 2024-2030 that Pacific Islands Forum Leaders endorsed in 2023. The 2050 Implementation Plan sets the foundation for transformational change that balances economic growth, social equity, and environmental stewardship in alignment with global commitments and frameworks.
The 2024 PFSD is an important consultation ensuring Pacific voices are conveyed to the 2025 Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), followed by the 2025 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). The 12th Asia-Pacific Forum for Sustainable Development (APFSD) will be organized from 25-28 February 2025, under the theme: “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs for leaving no one behind in Asia and the Pacific”. The APFSD convenes member States, development partners, civil society, and other stakeholders whose reflections feed into and inform the 2025 HLPF in New York, which reviews sustainable development progress at the global level.
As in previous years, the eighth PFSD will include opportunities for policymakers and stakeholders to interact and exchange solution-oriented approaches, success stories and lessons learned in the implementation of the development priorities. This year will also include private sectors' perspectives, which will include outcomes from the private sector forum "Empowering Public-Private Partnerships" held on 25 Septembe 2024, in preparation of the PFSD.
