With five years remaining to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, accelerating progress on gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls is critical to the achievement of sustainable development across Asia and the Pacific. While important advances have been made, progress remains uneven, with persistent gender inequalities across the Sustainable Development Goals and significant challenges related to gender-based violence, unpaid care and domestic work, labour markets, leadership and decision-making, and multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination.
The Asia-Pacific Regional Preparatory Meeting for the seventy-first session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW71) will bring together governments and key stakeholders from across the region to take stock of progress and remaining gaps, identify effective policies, institutions, partnerships and implementation approaches, and consider forward-looking regional priorities for accelerated action towards 2030 and beyond. The meeting will generate suggested actions to inform Asia-Pacific contributions to CSW71 and advance gender equality, the empowerment of all women and girls and the full realization of their human rights.
