ESCAP, the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Affairs, Maldives, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Asia-Pacific Regional Office will organize an event on the sidelines of the 79th session of the Commission which focuses on "Women, Gender Equality, and Climate Change in Asia and the Pacific".
As climate change and climate-induced disasters continue to threaten development in Asia and the Pacific, this event will address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by women and girls in the context of climate change in the region. By bringing together government representatives, gender and climate change experts, NGOs, academia, private sector leaders and community-based organisations, this event aims to foster knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and the identification of good practices and successful case studies in promoting gender-responsive climate action.
Ultimately, the event seeks to generate actionable recommendations that can inform regional and global climate policies and commitments. The side event will also inform the Seventh Asian and Pacific Population Conference later this year.
