This report presents the proceedings of the Workshop on the Management of Women’s Information Centres for South Pacific countries held in Port Vila, Vanuatu, from 13 to 24 November 1989 under ESCAP’s WINAP initiative. It reviews the development of women’s information systems and networks in the Asia-Pacific region and highlights the need for effective mechanisms to collect, analyze, and disseminate information on women’s status. The workshop focused on strengthening the capacities of personnel involved in managing women’s information centres through modules covering information management, statistics, research, media production, and new technologies. Country presentations revealed diverse challenges such as limited resources, weak coordination, and insufficient gender-disaggregated data. The report concludes with recommendations and action plans to establish national information centres, enhance regional cooperation, and improve communication systems for advancing women’s development in the Pacific.
