Expert Group Meeting and capacity-building workshop on Population Ageing in North and Central Asia: trends, policies and way forward

-

The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is organizing an expert group meeting on population ageing in North and Central Asia: trends, policies and way forward in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from 7 to 9 October 2025.

The meeting aims to discuss recent and future trends in population ageing in North and Central Asia and highlight priority implications. The meeting will also provide capacity-building to policymakers on policy options to address key issues pertaining to older persons and intergenerational relations in North and Central Asia through the exchange of experiences and good practices.

Meeting participants will also review a draft survey to be launched with ESCAP member States on the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) in early 2026. They will also review updates to the ESCAP repository of policies on ageing and the database of good practices which will be used as the platform to showcase forthcoming MIPAA survey results.

The meeting is being held to provide technical cooperation support to member States and non-governmental organizations on ageing and enhance cooperation with all relevant stakeholders, to promote ageing issues and develop partnerships.
