The 8th ReCAMA Training and Study Tour for Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers and Distributors

-

The Regional Council of Agricultural Machinery Associations (ReCAMA) was established by the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in 2014. ReCAMA aims to promote sustainable agricultural mechanization in Asia and the Pacific through strengthening the capacity of national agricultural machinery associations, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and information, and enhancing collaboration and closer business connections among national associations and their members.

The Food Systems Summit convened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations in 2021 recognized the vital role of agriculture and food systems in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in this Decade of Action. It reiterated that all the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals rely to some degree on healthier, more sustainable and equitable food systems. The role of smallholder farmers to ensure food security cannot be overstated, as well as the importance of providing them with technological assistance.

In this context, the 8th ReCAMA Training and Study Tour for Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers and Distributors will target “Sustainable Mechanization for Smallholder Farmers” with a focus on recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and on appropriate machinery. Such a theme was also identified during the Mid-Year Discussion Session of ReCAMA on 17 August 2023 by the member associations.

The 8th ReCAMA Training and Study Tour for Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers and Distributors aims to achieve the following objectives:

1) To improve the knowledge and capacity of the participants on mechanization for smallholder farmers;
2) To improve mutual understanding and business connections among the participants; and
3) To promote sustainable trade and investment in agricultural machinery in the Asia-Pacific region.
