Asia-Pacific Regional Review of the 30th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action
The Expert Group Meeting
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, convened an Expert Group Meeting to review the Asia-Pacific Beijing+30 Regional Synthesis Report. The regional synthesis report was a key product of the analytical review process to reveal progress, gaps and challenges with regard to the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995) in Asia and the Pacific, and to identify forward-looking priorities for action to accelerate gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls across the region. The regional synthesis report was compiled by ESCAP in collaboration with sister entities in the United Nations systems, and was launched at the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review.
The Expert Group Meeting brought together a core group of experts across the region to review and validate analytical findings as contained in the draft regional synthesis report. Six key thematic areas related to commitments made by member States in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action were reviewed, including: (i) poverty eradication, social protection and public services; (ii) shared prosperity and decent work; (iii) freedom from violence, abuse and exploitation; (iv) participation, accountability and gender-responsive institutions; (v) peaceful and inclusive societies; (vi) gender and the environment. Specifically, participants were invited to:
- Review and validate data and findings in the regional synthesis report with regard to major progress, gaps and challenges faced, as well as promising and innovative practices by countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
- Deliberate on the priorities for action and investment that could accelerate progress in the region based on the analytical findings.
- Explore policy options and strategies, including innovative approaches and good practices, for addressing the priorities for action and investment jointly identified.
- Contribute other technical and substantive inputs to strengthen the regional synthesis report.
