World Statistics Day 2025, celebrated on 20 October, featured a 24-hour Stats Café under the theme “Driving Change with Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone". Asia-Pacific region kicked off the global marathon with the first session held from ⏱️07:00 to 12:00 Bangkok time.

Background and Rationale

World Statistics Day, celebrated every five years on 20th October, highlights the importance of reliable data in informing policy, driving development, and improving everyday lives. The 2025 theme underscores the need for collaboration, trust, and innovation in statistical systems.

The 24-hour extended webinar was designed to be a dynamic, inclusive and interactive global virtual event bringing together statisticians, data scientists, policy-makers, students and the general public. Inspired by the successful format of the Asia-Pacific Stats Café sessions and other similar webinars, the event built on an established model of informal exchanges bringing together practitioners in the field of data and statistics. Through informal, yet engaging exchanges, the event aims to demystify statistics, showcase innovations and country experiences, and foster data literacy and trust in official statistics. By spanning 24 hours, the event ensured global participation across time zones, symbolizing a shared commitment to data-driven development.

The event encouraged the development of country-specific plans to celebrate World Statistics Day and amplify national celebrations. It also provided a platform for countries to spotlight their ongoing data and statistics initiatives, promoting greater visibility and knowledge-sharing across the region.
