Asia-Pacific Stats Café Series: Operationalizing Intersectionality across the Data Value Chain

Stats Cafe_30Sep2025

This Stats Cafe session, held on 30 September 2025, 10:00-11:00 a.m. (UTC+7) in collaboration with the Gender Data Network, convened data experts and practitioners to share their experiences in applying intersectionality across the data value chain. Panelists discussed case studies and strategies that showcase the transformative power of inclusive data systems.

Participants gained practical insights into how intersectional approaches can inform better data practices, create more equitable policies, and ultimately lead to meaningful change. Some questions the session addressed included:

  • What are the challenges faced in producing and using data on intersectionality with a focus on all phases of the data value chain—from the design and collection phases to data use and impact?
  • How can outcomes from intersectional data analysis systematically inform policymaking and priority target groups.
  • How can various data sources, including citizen data help with better capturing intersectional vulnerabilities?
  • Future directions: what are the concrete steps for national statistical systems and different communities to take to systematically produce and use data to address intersectionality?
