The ad-hoc Session of the Working Group on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities was held from 8 to 9 November 2023 at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) in Bangkok, Thailand and online. It was organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
The Working Group had been established in 2013 as per its Terms of Reference endorsed by the Commission. It held its last session in 2021.
The main objectives of the session were:
(a) To discuss the priorities of the Jakarta Declaration on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2023-2032.
(b) To review the Operational Guide on the Implementation of the Jakarta Declaration on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2023-2032.
(c) To discuss resource mobilization for the implementation of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2023–2032.
This meeting served as an ad-hoc session of the Working Group, following the endorsement of the Jakarta Declaration by members and associate members of ESCAP at the 79th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (15-19 May 2023). A new Working Group was to be established upon decision by the Commission at its 2024 session on the composition of the Working Group on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2023-2032.
